What’s The Chat With Snapchat?

Snapchat was launched back in 2011 as a modest image sharing app, with images only available for a few seconds, unlike most other social media images once uploaded they are there to stay. Originally launched as Picaboo by the developers Brown and Spiegel the app has since become a real challenge to the big boy’s like Facebook and Twitter.
Mobile users around the globe are using Snapchat for more than just chatting with friends. It’s becoming more and more popular as a device for connecting with brands, browse merchandise and also to watch content. What started out as a simple device for exchanging messages, photos and short videos has now evolved into a much larger entity involving specialist developers, apps and API’s.
Snapchat, like other chat apps appeals to its own demographic which tends to be different to other social media platforms in that it is more popular with younger users and this is one of the characteristics that make it appealing to businesses and marketers.
IS SNAPCHAT GOOD FOR BUSINESS?
The short answer is YES! – especially with the integration of geo filters. With over 100 million active users and 400 million snaps every day Snapchat is one of the fastest growing social networks on the market today. With more than 70% of Snapchat’s U.S. users aged between 18 and 34 years of age it’s not hard to see why Snapchat is fast becoming a vital tool in global marketing strategies.
With Snapchat stories only lasting 24 hours it’s easy for marketers to continually update without overloading the user with outdated information. Aside from being a great marketing tool Snapchat is also fun to use and allows users to surprise and delight others by adding geo filters, text, emoji, music and a whole lot more.
A good example of using Snapchat is when a brand company is about to release a new line, whether it be fashion, cosmetics or even an upcoming album release, they can use Snapchat to give users a sneak preview.
